Back Story of this Painting:
This series comes from the buildings I see while riding the train around Fukuoka. Growing up in a big city, I’ve always been drawn to the sense of safety and comfort buildings give, and they feel like a small break from the chaos outside. From the train, I catch glimpses into people’s lives through windows and balconies, such as moments like hanging laundry or tending plants.
It makes me think about how much we take shelter for granted. More than anything, it’s our most constant form of protection, not just from the elements, but from the pace of life. In this series, I wanted to paint these ordinary buildings as something more, almost like quiet guardians.
